Allotments.

There are five allotment sites around Gainsborough.

If you have ever thought about renting an allotment now is the time to act. There are five sites around Gainsborough owned and administrated by Gainsborough Town Council. Here is your chance to "grow your own" and make new friends at the same time.

All the sites offer a very safe environment to work in.

Across Gainsborough Town Council managed allotment sites there are plots available, whether you’re looking for a small patch to get started or a larger plot, there are options available".

Family History Help at Gainsborough Library. If you are interested in your family history but don't know where to start looking, then Gainsborough library is the place for you.

Plenty of resources available to you.

Family history sessions are held every Friday from 2.30pm - 3.30pm.  Experienced staff will be able to guide you through the many resources available.

The library has access to a host of databases which are invaluable tools to enable in depth research. Your family tree will soon start to grow.

The Gainsborough and District Flower Club was formed in 1965.

 The Gainsborough & District Flower Club nights are on the fourth Thursday in the month start time 7:15 p.m. at Gladstone House, Ropery Road, Gainsborough DN21 2TS.

 "You don’t have to be a flower arranger to join. If you love flowers – for your home, for church, for occasions, to grow in the garden, or simply enjoy watching flowers being arranged and have a fun and sociable evening, then please come along."

The Gainsborough Heritage Centre is on the corner of North Street.

The Centre is spread over three floors. The ground floor includes an industrial exhibition area featuring products and machines from local firms long gone. The first floor shows a twentieth-century themed street including former shops from Gainsborough’s past. The second floor is home to the research library and associated archives in various forms.

  "The Centre has a dedicated team of volunteers who assist visitors with their visit, whether welcoming them to the Centre, working as a guide to the exhibitions or helping visitors with their research requests." New volunteers are always welcome with lots of opportunities to learn more. Membership of the Centre costs just £15 per year (£100 for life membership).

Gainsborough Men's Probus.

Gainsborough has a very active Probus Group.

Gainsborough PROBUS meets on Mondays, except Bank Holidays, so over 40 times per year. The venue is Morton Village Hall. We start with coffee at 9.45. The meeting proper begins 10.00.

Enjoy thought provoking presentations on a regular basis.

"We have an outside speaker for half of our meetings, with presentations and other contributions from our members for the other half. The finishing time is (about) 11.30.“ We also meet as a group for pub lunches occasionally during the year. 

Gainsborough Men's Probus has a mix of outside speakers and contributions from members.

Meetings are held at Morton village hall.

"We are currently seeking new members to enjoy our varied programme of informative presentations, as well as the opportunity to meet together with others of similar interests. "

Gainsborough Model Railway Society.

Gainsborough Model Railway Society 2024 open days at Florence Terrace, Gainsborough DN21 1BE.

This Society is crammed full of model railway layouts. Open Days are always well attended and there are refreshments provided in the "Waiting Room". The next Open Day is Saturday 8th April 2023.

Worthy of their own exhibition, the walls are decked out with railway memorabilia adding a sense of nostalgia to the rooms.

The Rotary plant display in Richmond Park Gainsborough for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

One of the many community projects undertaken by Rotary, this beautiful planting display was put together in Richmond Park for the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee  celebrations in 2022.

The Gainsborough Rotary club will be working hard for the annual Firework Display in 2024.

The club will be working hard in preparation for the Firework Display  coming up in November 2024. Always something to look forward to, their displays just get better and better!

u3a schedule of speakers for 2024/25.

“The official part of the meetings  commence at 10.20am and we usually have finished by 11.45am, but do join us from 10am onwards for a cup of tea/coffee and a chat.” As can be seen above, there is always a wide range of subjects at the group meetings throughout the year. Something for everyone!

Gainsborough Wildlife Trust.

The Gainsborough branch of Lincs Wildlife Trust hold both indoor and outdoor meetings.

Gainsborough is part of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.

The  branch meets on the 3rd Weds of each month at Gainsborough Methodist Church at 7.30pm during Autumn and Winter. Talks and presentations on  wildlife are enjoyed. 

Activities spring & summer 2024.

An entrance contribution of £2.50 (min) includes refreshments. Field trips are arranged during the Spring/Summer months.

Greener Gainsborough promotes the Wellbeing benefits of nature and encourages people to get out there and enjoy the fresh air and nature around them.

Are you interested in gardening? Do you like the idea of volunteering in your community? There are so many positives by joining this group! Reap the benefits of working in an allotment alongside like-minded folk and take pride in being part of community projects.

If you are unsure whether to take on your own allotment why not join one of the community allotments and take the opportunity to learn more. Or maybe you are thinking of giving up your allotment but will miss the camaraderie. In that case, lighten your load,  join in and pass on your wealth of experience to others.

The Stepping Stone Scribblers meet at Gainsborough library in Cobden Street. Wednesdays 9-11am.

September 7th 2024. Another weekly Stepping Stone Scribblers club starting up. If you can't get to their Wednesday sessions at Gainsborough library, here is another chance to begin creative writing. 10am - noon at CLIP at The Bridge.
